JAMB Change of Course, Institution & Data Correction 2022/2023 (Updated)

JAMB cut off mark 2022 for universities, polytechnics & colleges

Basically here are seven reasons why
degree holders end up becoming poor or average in life.

1.
They don’t think beyond their certificates
“Education is not the learning of
facts, but the training of the mind to think,” Albert Einstein said. Have
you ever heard the creativity term “think outside the box”? One of
the main reasons the majority of graduates are poor is simply that they cannot
see and think beyond their certificates.
I’ve seen students in engineering working
as bankers. I’ve seen doctors with superb web and graphic design skills. I’ve
seen lawyers who are very cunning about the finances. The list goes on without
end!
The fundamental truth of life is that
the skills needed to be much sought after and to become more successful in life
are not really found within the classroom walls. Your certificate is just
evidence that you can be taught; it doesn’t suggest what you can do. When you
think beyond your diplomas and certificates you are full of possibilities.
2.
They prioritize their certificates more
than their gifts and talents
I have often advised some of my colleagues
to never leave their gifts dormant with their certificates while pursuing and
hunting for jobs. In pursuing your passion and in searching for jobs there has
to be a complementary balance.
Everyone is talented for something,
but the winning edge comes from our ability to work on our gifts and thereby
bless the world. The best way to develop you is toward your natural talents and
interest. We need to work harder on our gift than our job if we are to live a
fulfilled and impactful life. We need to uncover, develop and sell our gift.
Don’t bury your certificates with TALENT.
3.
Their certificates prepare them for a world that no longer exist
It was found that, in the present
world, most of the skills taught in schools are becoming obsolete. The world
has changed a great deal and so is the need of people! Knowing that the current
form of university education doesn’t prepare students for the future is
imperative.
In the face of a changing world
graduates are becoming endangered species. Our archaic methods and learning
approaches are preparing graduates for a world that no longer exists, as each
year we churn out degree holders with face value certificates but no intrinsic
value.
In a changing world, most learning institutions
are filled with lecturers and pseudo-educators with lecture notes, methods and
approaches that have lost relevance.
4.
They know less about themselves but more about things
Certificates and degrees do not reveal
themselves to people; they measure our IQ (Intelligent Quotient) to the most.
Often I’ve told people there’s no recovery without Discovery. A poor man is
just someone who hasn’t come across himself.
The more you discover yourself, the
more you become aware of the treasures hidden deep within you. We carry latent
treasures within ourselves which can only be unveiled through self-discovery.
5.
Certificates and degrees can kill initiatives
Degrees and certificates can close
your mind to ideas while it opens up initiatives. If you are not careful, your
qualifications and certificates can close your mind. The purpose of education
is to keep your mind open to boundless possibilities forever!
Fred Smith saw an opportunity to
deliver anything overnight anywhere in the USA, and FedEx was born to deliver
ultra-fast delivery anywhere in the world. It’ll be interesting to know that in
a Yale economics class, Fred Smith got a grade “C” for an idea that
the professor belittled as unworkable.
The firm of Fred Smith became the
first American business to make an annual profit of more than ten billion
dollars. Starting with just 186 packages delivered the first night, FedEx now
delivers over 6,030 aircraft, 46,000 vehicles and 141,000 employees in more
than two hundred countries.
6.
Degrees and certificates position you to look for jobs and not for
opportunities
Our certificates and degrees prepare
graduates to look for jobs and do not open our eyes to opportunities that
change lives. You’re not poor because you don’t have a job; you ‘re poor,
because you don’t see opportunities and take them.
To be POOR is simply repeatedly
passing over opportunities! What keeps people ahead in life is not their
education or degrees, they simply seized the opportunity. Jobs may be scarce
but opportunities aren’t.
There will always be opportunities, as
long as there is a problem to be solved. It’s a waste of our education,
exposure, and experiences if all we think about after graduating from school is
seeking a job. An enlightened and educated mind should be able to see
opportunities and to seize them.
7.
Certificates and degrees prepare people to look for security and not to take
risks
We need to be willing to make mistakes
and take risks at breakthrough. Learning from mistakes and taking risks help us
to know what works and what doesn’t! When Thomas Edison was questioned by a
mischievous journalist as to how he felt he had failed 999 times before he got
the idea of the light bulb, his answer stunned the entire world when he said
confidently, “I have not failed 999 times, I have only learned 999 ways of
not making a light bulb.”
Many graduates and graduate holders
are becoming progressively poor because there is no teaching in schools and
institutions about the skills required in the modern world to get rich.
By 2025, automation will cause us to
lose over five million jobs. That means that by the time many people graduate
from university, future jobs will look vastly different.
Future jobs will involve KNOWLEDGE
PRODUCTION / CREATION and innovation, and in an ever-changing world, people who
are only equipped with the skills found in the classroom will certainly be
misfit. Skills such as critical thinking , creativity, ability of people, STEM
skills (e.g. coding), complex problem-solving skills, etc. are key to a more
comprehensive and productive life.
Therefore, in conclusion, My humble
and candid advice to graduates and students in institutions is to think
broadly, deeply and beyond the box. Take volunteer jobs, and don’t be afraid to
navigate fields other than your learning field. In order to come up with
creative solutions to future problems, your future career will require you to
draw information from many different fields.
Start by reading about anything and
everything that interests you, as much as you can. Once you have reached
college, consider double majoring or minoring in entirely different fields.
Trust me, in the long run, that’ll pay off.
Don’t just restrict yourself to class.
Do something concrete. Take a leadership stance. Start a business and fail; the
entrepreneurship is better. Contest, and lose an election. Something political
science won’t teach you it will teach. Waiting for a seminar, Read books
outside of your course spectrum.
Think less about becoming a great
student but think more about becoming a great person. Don’t make your world a
classroom, but make the world your classroom. Go ahead, and try something
extra.
Invest in what you believe in! Real
financial security and freedom is not your job, but your passion, your gifts,
your talents and your ability to see and seize opportunities.
