The
National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has
warned Nigerians to be cautious while buying food and drug.
Director
of Public Affairs, Jimoh Abubakar, gave the advice in an interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
He
stated that all regulated products, including food, drugs, medical items and
packaged water must be licensed.
Emphasisng
on NAFDAC registration number, Abubakar told citizens to look out for labelling
requirements.
“Examine
the content of the product, the seal of authority or the approved registration
number from NAFDAC,” he said.
The
spokesman explained that NAFDAC puts every product through laboratory analysis
and certain compendium references before certification.
“We
to look at the whole process of good manufacturing practice, the location and
all factors put together to certify a product,” he added.
Abubakar,
however, vowed that those engaged in fake registration would be arrested and
prosecuted.
